Event Date:

Event Time:

11:00 am

Event Location:

Syötävä Puisto (Edible Park)

Want to learn how to forage and use summer wild herbs for natural dye?

This wild herb foraging workshop is an adventure into local nature, where you will learn about the healing effects and fascinating tastes of herbs, and their application in crafts. This workshop is a great way to learn about the nutritional benefits, medicinal effects and biology of wild plants. In addition, during the workshop you’ll hear fascinating stories about folk traditions and the magical effects of the plants.

The foraged plants will be used for bundle dyeing after the walk. In this part of the workshop, you will learn how to use local plants and flowers for natural dyeing, how to treat fabrics to best absorb natural dyes, extract colour from wild plants and create your own pattern. All necessary materials will be provided and each participant will get one pre-treated silk scarf to use for dyeing.

After the workshop, participants will receive an e-book about wild herbs in Finland so they can continue their studies at home, as well as a bundle dyeing booklet with study materials for future dyeing experiments.

The workshop is hosted by Anna Nyman. Anna is a biologist and a certified wild food guide. She also studies herbalism and finished her studies in August 2022.

The natural dyeing part is hosted by Natália Otrubová, a crafter and textile designer, board member of Slow Food Helsinki.
