Want to learn how to forage and use midsummer wild herbs?

This wild herb foraging workshop is an adventure into local nature, where you will learn about the healing effects and fascinating tastes of herbs, and their application in crafts. This workshop is a great way to learn about the nutritional benefits, medicinal effects and biology of wild plants. In addition, during the workshop you’ll hear fascinating stories about folk traditions and the magical effects of the plants.

The foraged plants will be used for bundle dyeing after the walk. In this part of the workshop, you will learn how to use local plants and flowers for natural dyeing, how to treat fabrics to best absorb natural dyes, extract color from wild plants and create your own patterns.. All necessary materials will be provided and each participant will get one pre-treated cotton bag along with cotton test-swatches.

After the workshop, participants will receive an e-book about wild herbs in Finland so they can continue their studies at home, as well as a bundle dyeing booklet with study materials for future dyeing experiments.

The foraging part of this workshop is hosted by Anna Nyman. Anna is a biologist and a certified wild food guide. She also studies herbalism and will finish her studies in August 2022. Follow her instagram account for more!

The natural dyeing part is hosted by Natália Otrubová, product and textile designer and artisan, board member of Slow Food Helsinki.
